Project Title: A Comprehensive Strategy to Eliminate Transmission of Hepatitis B Virus Infection in Liberia. Concept Notes It is likely that making hepatitis B vaccination accessible, affordable, available with health education in Liberia will be the most effective measures to prevent hepatitis B virus infection and its consequences, including cirrhosis of the liver, liver cancer, liver failure, and death. There is a trend of hepatitis B primarily among unvaccinated persons with behavioral risks for its transmission such as heterosexuals with multiple sex partners, injection-drug users, men who have sex with men, among household contacts and sex partners of persons with chronic HBV infection (CDC, 2011). From personal experience, there are lots of cases of hepatitis in the Liberian Population in Philadelphia. Most of those cases already existed before migrating to Philadelphia from Liberia or various refugee camps. Some of those affected people have already had children and continue to infect more people, increasing the hepatitis B population globally. This project is therefore geared towards making vaccination accessible, affordable, and available with health education to eliminate hepatitis B virus infection in Monrovia, Liberia West Africa as well as the global community. The duration of this project will have three phases: Phase1 is 6 months, Phase11 will be 12 months and Phase11 will be 24 months. This project will want to look at childbearing age women: 12 to 45. Men 12-40. Children of all approved age for HBV. In the US, I will consult some team members for possible raw data in one or two hospitals in Philly and I know some of them physically but how to have access to the record. I will check CDC as well. CDC has a huge data base for HBV by state but do not know of foreign countries. The likely total cost of this project in all three phases is $800,000.
