Server/Website to Windows Desktop file transfer

Hello, I am bit unclear about "This can alternatively be done by sending a new file from server to desktop whenever we have new file on server". Is it possible to run any program/service in the server which will do this? What about if i create a windows service which will check for new file in an interval? Let's discuss more. Thanks

hi there, I can understand your requirement. From my point of view you need a Cron Job desktop based application may be a windows service which will execute after a specific time of period and download the data from server/website to the windows desktop. So, both are synced every time you need to create ftp account for that specific folder and i will code it to download all files from the server. any queries let me know

Hello, I can help you. I can make a Windows Service that will check for the files in the server and download new ones to the desktop. The service will run every N secons (configurable) in the desktop and will download the new files. If the server is accesible by HTTP protocol there is no need to using FTP, but if it is not then the service will need to connect to the server by FTP. Thanks, regards.

Hello There, I am a Software Developer with more than 9 years of experience in .NET and SQL Server related projects. I do not have a working solution at the moment, but from my past experience, this kind of polling can be scheduled with a timer, checking for the hash value of the files / size of the folder remotely and locally and do a quick comparison. This way we will be doing on-demand FTP connection only. Again depends on the conditions of the server and target file location, whether old files exist, or get cleared off from the server, whether target location can change etc. need to consider the context and then we can approach this accordingly. I could write a quick PowerShell job that will continually run and look for a new file. If it finds one it can robocopy It to your destination. As long as they are in the same network and have fileshare permissions it can send no problem. We can use a task scheduler job so you can shut it off when it is not needed.
