3D Polygon Geometry and Measurement Verification Program

We manufacture shade sails which may be 3, 4, 5 or 6 sided shapes, mounted on poles of varying height. These are difficult to measure accurately so we need a measurement verification program where we can input the perimeter measurements of the shape, the pole heights and the diagonals. The program needs to mathematically check the entered measurements and indicate the % of error and which measurement(S) are most likely incorrect. There are two parts to the project: 1. A JavaScript or similar program created to run in an ecommerce website which has a product configurator interface which will be used to input the measurements. The interface will be built by another supplier. 2. A stand-alone app able to run on Android, iOS and Windows PC. ADDITIONAL INFO The minimum measurements that are needed to able to provide verification of dimensions for each polygon shape are as below. Essentially, we need enough diagonals to divide each polygon into triangles so that we can calculate all the angles and then additional diagonals which will enable us to detect incorrect measurements being entered. The process begins as follows: (Assume all heights are equal initially. Enter heights after the minimum number of diagonals have been entered.) 1. Enter all perimeter measurements. 2. For a 4-sided polygon need 1 diagonal. 3. For a 5-sided polygon need 2 diagonals – both originating from one point. i.e. B-D, B-E 4. For a 6-sided polygon need 3 diagonals – each connecting with the others. i.e. B-D, B-E, B-F Pole heights are entered at this point to be able to calculate the true lengths of the remaining diagonals. All subsequent measurements are calculatable. (Red Dashed Lines on attached drawings) We need to pre-calculate these and display a % of error margin if incorrect verifying measurements are entered into these fields. The program needs to update all calculations each time a measurement is updated. We will then need to apply some logic to indicate which measurements could potentially be incorrect. HEIGHTS: Once we have the minimum perimeter and diagonals entered to calculate the true lengths of the remaining diagonals, we need to enter the heights of the mount points from the ground. (A key part of shade sail design is the variance of the mount point heights as this is what shapes the sails into a 3-dimensional mesh instead of a flat piece of fabric which would flap in the wind.) In this example (See attached) you can see how the first 2 diagonals (B-D & B-E), divide the sail into 3 flat triangles. However, because the mount points are not on the same plane, to calculate A-D, A-C and C-E you need the variations of the mount point positions on the vertical axis from the horizontal base plane. This means you can create the additional triangles – calculate their angles and from there calculate the correct length of the remaining diagonals. The program needs to recalculate this if any height, edge, or diagonal measurements are changed.
