Ajax: Read text from xml and print

The project is quite simple. I need a small javascript which fetches an xml file and prints out some of the info on a webpage. The script must be able to reload the xml file after n seconds and update the text on the webpage without reloading the html page itself. The javascript needs to be cross-browser compatible. I am looking for very clean and small code.
