Write script in e.g. MATLAB or Python to analyze ~100 images: the number of particles must be counted. Some particles are spherical, some are not, as displayed in the image. Occasionally particles overlap. The degree of non-sphericity and overlap varies between images, as does contrast. Particles GENERALLY contrast well against background, although there can be dark areas in corners of images. Average ~900 particles per image? Some images have been accurately counted by hand. Script must consistently achieve <5% error, and should average <2% or better. End result: table with image name/number in one column, and associated total particle count for each image in one column. (Manual count estimated to take ~3 days)

I am a potential PhD student in a top 3 UK university. I had several projects done by matlab. And I'm sure I can help you with this project. I forgot to mention that we had a similar lab that use matlab to count stars on an image from the telescope. I think these two have come common links.

Hi, I use image segmentation to analyze AFM or optical microscopy images. I have the code ready. Once it works with your images the code can be taken to another level and implemented on GUIDE and include batch processing. Please let me know if you are happy to use the Image Processing Toolbox or if you need to implement the code without it. Cheers, Samuele

Hello, I am an electrical engineering graduate student with an MS degree in optics. I have over 10 years experience working with MATLAB and writing optical analysis algorithms for many different types of applications, including color and shape detection. My portfolio shows a little of my MATLAB image analysis work. In my last freelance Matlab contract (on oDesk), I got a great review from my client for my image processing code and my quick turnaround time. For this project, I will deliver Matlab code, which can include a GUI (if desired) to select the area of the image which contains the particles. This can reduce false positives.
