This project considers the deformation due to aerodynamic loading of a wind turbine blade by performing a steady-state 1-way FSI (Fluid-Structure Interaction) analysis using ansys workbench. Part 1, the ANSYS Fluent to develop the aerodynamics loading on the blade is used. In part 2, the pressures on the wetted areas of the blade are passed as pressure loads to ANSYS Mechanical to determine stresses and deformations on the blade. This project contains an ansys file with a detailed PowerPoint presentation.

I have worked on aeroelastic analysis of wings which involves integration of aerodynamic and structural analysis with consideration to structural non-linearity. In this research the fluid flow problem was solved by Finite volume method based solver ANSYS Fluent, The structural analysis problem was solved by Finite element method based solver ANSYS Workbench Mechanical. The two approaches are combined using suitable system coupling schemes in the Workbench environment. The effect of different design variables on the structural stress level and deflection of the wing was also studied. The profile of the wing was standard NACA0012 with aspect ratio (AR) = 5. The mesh was generated in workbench, I used Spalart Almaras model for turbulence modelling in Fluent. Lift coefficient and Drag coefficient was the validation criteria in CFD analysis. The steady state CFD analysis shown good convergence. The static pressure on surface of the wing was mapped as load in structural solver. I finally evaluated the stresses and deflections on the wing. Your project is almost similar to my previous work. But I just want to know your quality criteria for meshing, do you want to solve it by coupling Fluent and Workbench Mechanical? What are the parameters you want to check for validation of the CFD results? Is the wing is made of isotropic material or orthotropic material? Thanks Regards Team Kum-fu CAD
