Hello!
This project calls to me, as I watch a lot of movies and have always thought it would be fun to "review," them in some way. I've posted a recap in the paragraph below. It helps that I've seen this movie, and know it well:
As ten-year-old Chihiro sulks in the backseat of the car, she and her parents embark on an unwanted move. Having left behind friends and familiarity, making the drive to their new home, Chihiro is whiny and cross. With a note, indicating that it was a "goodbye" gift from a friend, the wilting bouquet in her lap conceals a dramatic metaphor for the doom she feels bestowed on her in this uprooting.
Within a short distance to their new home, Chihiro's father takes a wrong turn, sending the family down a bumpy, decaying old road through a densely overgrown forest. An anxious child, Chihiro sees an odd-looking rock statue through the trees as they drive by, giving rise her perpetual unease. Mysteriously, the road ends at a tunnel leading to what is presumed to be an abandoned theme park. The surroundings appear ostensibly less like a tourist attraction, and more comparable to that of complete abandonment. Chihiro feels the disquieted instinct that they do not belong there. Grudgingly, she eventually follows her parents into the tunnel. Her father boasts, as his sense of adventure (and the hope of cultivating in her, some resilience) guides them into the tunnel, and onward to the curious venue to look around.
Thank you for reading!
