Quick summary - 8 buttons connected to Shift Register - I need each button to send a predefined keyboard command. I have a bank of 8 buttons connected to a shift register (SN74HC165) which I need to connect to a Pi Pico (preferably) or an Arduino ProMicro. Each press of each button needs to send a different Keycode to the PC as if it were a keyboard. For example, if I have Notepad open and press button 1, "A" will be printed, button 2 = B, 3 = B, etc. I will require the source code so that I can edit the keys as needed. I have already done this as a matrix and individual buttons but now the number of connections means this **must** be done via the 74HC165. The pins you use for this is are up to you and I don't mind if it's written in the Arduino IDE, or using another editor for MicroPython/CircuitPython. I will also gladly add any necessary libraries so you do not need to create a custom keyboard library. This is simply interpreting the shift register and sending key characters to the PC.
