I have performed budgeting and variance analysis in both my corporate and small business career. I didn't enjoy corporate life so that was a short lived career and have enjoyed small business including some of my own for the past 14 years. I qualified as a Chartered Accountant at Deloitte South Africa in 2000. and can include SAB Miller as part of my corporate life. Do you have the budgeted figures in a spreadsheet already? From your description it seems you want a weekly report on how actual compares to budget. It seems tough to learn a lot comparing budget against actual weekly and in particular to adjust where you expect to land on a weekly basis. Saying this though I acknowledge I don't know what industry you are in. In principle I can either modify a spreadsheet if you have one or design another that will show the variances. It can also be made to adjust expectations by adding future budget to actual to date for the year. Otherwise could adjust budgeted figures for the balance of the year based on percentage change in actual vs budget. It will be tough to show what is driving the variances as these could be industry specific and a result of many other factors. What I could do is calculate relationships between figures. For example agents commission would decrease if sales does. If you decide to engage more with me then I can estimate time to complete and cost better. If I don't believe I can deliver at a high level I'll rather leave the project. Regards Gregg
