I am a roofing contractor that specializes in insurance claim work. The biggest part of my job, and key to our success relates to supplementing insurance claims. In a nut shell, the insurance carrier writes an initial estimate, and I produce a supplemental estimate to include all items pertaining to code or just simply items that have been missed. It sounds like it should be easy, but the insurance adjusters fight back on every line item no matter how much justification you provide them. We have adjusted our process to include the homeowner in the process, and ultimately take care of the supplementing before the initial estimate is ever provided to them. In order to do this, I need my sales reps to produce accurate scope reports prior to the adjuster arriving. I have produced a very comprehensive scope report template with every line item that might be needed, as well as all of my arguments and supporting documents to justify them. Currently, it is a 33 page packet that can be cumbersome to say the least. However, a large portion of the line items can be accounted for with a "Either/Or" option, and the rest are already separated into categories and can be chosen from a list very easy. Optimally, when the scope report is complete, it can be exported and emailed as a PDF and as an .esx file. An .esx file is the file type produced by the estimating software we use, Xactimate. If we can export the scope report as an .esx file, then the adjuster can simply import it into his Xactimate portal and enter the quantities of each line item rather than re-creating the list. My future plans for this app would be that it can read a measurement report that has been exported into an .xlsx file. The quantity values could be set as variables based on information found in the exported measurement file. My sales reps would then be able to not only produce a scope report, but also a full estimate to provide to the adjusters.
