I have a PHP application that needs to be installed on a range of Windows servers. Each installation may be slightly different and I need an installation procedure document created that highlights the best practices for the installation. The document is not a step by step manual, but will need to cover the main points and allow for different scenarios. The application itself is flexible and could work in a range of environments, but we need to identify the pros/cons of each so an educated decision can be made by everybody involved. The application will be hosted on a business intranet and will have access to internal databases so needs to be secure. The application also relies on being able to execute some binary files so this security risk needs to be restricted as much as possible. Access will be within the internal intranet and could also extend to allowing remote access by staff. It may need to be installed on an existing IIS server or a new server installed specifically for this application - I'd like the document to highlight any significant security/performance considerations between various IIS versions (6 - 8.5) and Apache and best practices for segmenting it as securely as possible. For example if it was to be installed on an IIS 6 web server which also runs a company database, what security/performance issues does this bring compared to a segmented virtual machine running IIS 8.5. The document needs to be professionally written by somebody who has actual experience dealing with web security and PHP installations.

Dear Sir, Thank you for posting this interesting project. Also allow me to introduce myself. I am Abhi, a professional with expertise in Microsoft technologies and server security as well as VAPT. Quite new on freelancer but was active on other sites. So if given a chance, here is how I would like to execute this project. - Install the php application on II6 - Run a vulnerability and penetration testing to get the list of all such vulnerabilities of the application and web server. - Repeat the same for all IIS versions and Apache versions. The existing vulnerabilities of different versions of IIS and Apache are already known. It is just the application part which is unknown. The second concern that you have is of this application running on local intranet but also allowing some remote users. If the users are known, I would suggest having a VPN. Local intranet can be easily controlled of. The priority will be to keep the company database secure. However if this php application is having access to this database then it can only be secured if the app is secured. This would be covered in VAPT. At the end of the exercise will come the document that you want. Now what is not covered in this bid. 1. Web Server Installation. 2. PHP Installation - I am sure your IT team would do that easily but if that is a challenge, do please let me know. Hello, Your project description is a bit vague, do you have more details on the application itself ? what kind of sensitive functions are you using, you mention the application executes binaries. How ? with CGI or from php using exec()? Also what kind of binaries elf/linux or windows because if these are linux based binaries I would suggest using some sort of BSD jails (light weight sandbox). Anyway security is my think, I actually did my phd in web security and would be more than qualified to help you. We just need to scope it better.
