I have a website that contains a searchable database of over 2,000 specific locations worldwide (though with a heavy emphasis in the USA). The site is made with Frontpage and interfaces with an Access database. People can visit the site, and search for locations by city / state / zipcode / country, etc.
I would love to allow the ability for people to type in their own address, and the site would display the locations that are closest to their address. It would show the top x# of locatoins that are closest to the inputted address, and show how far away each location is from that address.
Before I post this as an official job for people to bid on, please tell me - what would it entail to accomplish this? Is it a straightforward programming job, or do I need to purchase additional software (e.g. some kind of map databases) to make this happen? I own Microsoft Mappoint, if that helps. (Using Mappoint, on my own home computer, I can import the database, and do this kind of proximity searching, but I want to enable visitors to my website to do the same thing)
I want to hire someone through RAC to make this happen, but I just wanted to find out in advance what the project would entail...
## Deliverables
Just tell me if
1. I should go ahead and post this as a real job, and someone can do this for me, or...
2. I should be aware that some other resources/software is necessary to make this possible.
Thanks!
