125161 Ajax counter of ads

We have a job ad placement website and we need the numbers of jobs ad to be updated every minute like a counter or so using Ajax (without browser refresh). You will need to update each div that needs updating and there will be 8 div id's placed on our website. eg. If there is one new job for beauty, update the job count for beauty and add 1 onto the total amount of jobs. I am a software developer and have some beginner knowlege on php/mysql/javascript and have some code that i have put together from many sources and have modified it to suit the website however it does not work properly or at all. The first div id is the total amount of jobs. the rest of divs are the categories. eg. Jobs in Hair, Jobs in Beauty, Jobs in Nails and so on. Only people that can do this apply. Thankyou.
