This project is to build a new iPhone app. Please provide iTunes links to existing apps you have built. If you cannot provide iTunes links to existing apps you have built, please do not apply.
The app’s functionality is relatively simple, so the project will be awarded to the individual or team that can demonstrate the greatest experience is creating graphics, visual design and user experience. Price is important, but not as important as producing a visually stunning app. Similarly, timing is not an issue. We are happy to wait a number of weeks for an app that looks perfect.
The app will be made up of five screens:
Homepage - Screen 1 will be the page a user sees when the app starts. It will act as a menu and contain four buttons that can be clicked to take the user to one of the other screens mentioned below. The buttons will need custom graphics, rather than just text.
Programme - Screen 2 will display an image. The image will need to be zoom-able, scrollable and contain clickable hotspots. Each image will have a default zoom and position, which is unlikely to be equal to the full image displayed. When a hotspot on the image is clicked, a pop-up should appear that displays a thumbnail image and some text that corresponds to the selected hotspot. The location of each hotspot (co-ordinates on the image) and the associated text is contained within an XML file. The main image, the thumbnail images and the XML file will need to be downloaded from our server when requested by the user (not when the app is installed). Once downloaded, the images and XML file must be saved on the iPhone for later off-line viewing. The user must be able to refresh the data from the server on request.
Attendees List - Screen 3 will display a list of people, displaying their name and job title. Similar to above, this information will need to be downloaded from our server. It is stored in XML format.
Social Events - Screen 4 will display a list of events, including a thumbnail picture, its location, time and a brief description. Similar to above, this information will need to be downloaded from our server. The event details are stored in XML format.
Sponsors - Screen 5 will display a list of companies, including a thumbnail image and a brief description. Clicking on a company will take the user to the company’s website. Similar to above, this information will need to be downloaded from our server. The company details are stored in XML format.
Greater detail about each screen and suggested wireframes will be provided once the project begins.
You must be willing to work in an iterative manner. I.e. we will insist on installing a preview version of the app at regular points throughout its development so that feedback can be provided to you whilst the app is still being developed, rather than just at the end of the project.
We would also like to see a selection of proposed visual designs (created in PhotoShop or similar) before any code is written. As stressed above, your design skills are more important than your coding skills for this project.
Should you be accepted for this project, you waive the right to use, sell or promote the app once it is complete. We will be the full and exclusive owner of the app being created.
The project will be deemed complete once all identified defects have been fixed and re-tested, the iPhone app is available for download via iTunes and the source code (plus any dependencies) has been saved to a location of our choice.
It appears common when advertising for work to include a code-word that must be included in each bidder’s response. Ours is “blossomâ€. Please write “blossom†at the beginning of your response to confirm that you have read and understood the brief in its entirety. Any questions, feel free to ask.
