Set up Linux server and connect to a aplication server with netbeans -- 2

I need to set up a Oracle Data base or Postgre sql Data base on a linux server and the web application (aplication server like glassfish) should be on a separate machine. Please, I need advise/advices and orientaion on how to do it, recommendations on how to make it done, logical and physical requirements. you will have to set it up both the web aplication and the server running on Linux. Configure Linux if possible COnfigure data base on linux help installing the glassfish on PC provide best practices and recommendations for learning curve/purposes provide feedback if it is better install Linux on a Virtual Machine (Virtual Box) and connect it to the web app using netbans or provide feedback if it is better install Linux on a physical PC and connect it via LAN and make the connection, I have the web app and you will need to set it up using netbeans, if possible, provide indication on how to run it. all these requeriements are just for learning purposes, nothing else. anything else/more request, will be added thru the validation of each step according to the person in charge thank you.,
