inductive coin discrimination circuit

we need an analog circuit for coin discrimination.
for the exciting of the coils we have a pic16f887 - pwm signal could be used.
power supply is 5V from USB.
the circuit will be connected with the ad converter of the pic.
we have already tried with amplitude of the inducted coils by detecting peak values when a coin passes the inductive sensors but the results are not good enough for any coin discrimination.
how the discrimmination is done is not important for us, but it must be very reliable and accurate.
