Group proposal for autistic kids and their parents

ABSTRACT IDEA FOR WHAT I WANT....The primary purpose of developing a support group for autistic children and their parents is to give confidence and understanding to parents. This group will incorporate different activities that are designed to engage the parent and child. The group will discuss behavior issues, sensory issues, parental stress, and activities that will enhance parent and child connections. The need for the group is to understand autism and how to educate parents in the ability to help their children become successful and independent. Parents need to become familiar with their own behaviors and how their actions influence their children’s behaviors. There is a need for a support group for parents because of stress, confusion, and to develop parental skills. Several parents that are affected with autism have difficulties in handling the stress of parenting a child with autism. Several parents have lost their children and have been arrested because of abuse to their autistic child. This group will develop an understanding of how to work through issues that can arise in having a child with autism.
