Digitization Dines Pressure Anemograph
India Meteorological Department has a set up of twenty-nine Dynes Pressure Tube Anemograph (DPTA) at 29 various locations of the country which provides a continuous recording of the instantaneous values of both the wind speed and direction simultaneously on a single chart mounted on a clock is driven drum. However, the recorded wind data is of limited use for the forecasters as the chart is available only after 24 hours of the period. Digitization of this system can provide online transmission of wind data which is of immense importance to forecasters. Moreover, it provides two data sets. Using available technology Surface Instruments Division, Head Climate Research & Services, IMD, Ministry of earth sciences, Pune with the collaboration of Electronics & Telecommunication branch of Singhgad Institute, Pune have developed digitization of DPTA using conventional system intact. The comparative record of wind data at various heights shows only ± 0.1kmph deviation. References G. P

I am a retired scientist from India Meteorological Department. So far I have published 23 scientific and technical research articles & published in National and International journals. I had used huge data such as daily rainfall/temperatures which was subjective to statistical techniques like power, regression, time series and probability analysis. Apart from this I had written many technical reports during my professional career. I was also a faculty member in teaching statistical techniques to Indian as well foreign meteorological officers.
