ScientistFeb 1985 - May 2018 (33 years)
Proved my scientific and technical capabilities in flourishing manufacturing unit of India Meteorological Department by way of submission of modernization plan worth Rs. 1.5 crore. While posting in National Climate Data Center got exposure in huge data handling. My long stay of 11 years in Agromet division made me a professional technical writer. During my 33 years of service I published 23 research papers/articles in various journals which are uploaded on "Research Gate" an USA website.
Master in Physics1978 - 1980 (2 years)
"Climate Data Management System" (2008)Meteo France
Ministry of Earth Sciences and Meteo - France in collaboration implemented a project on modernization of India Meteorological Department. Under this project I had undergone a training on "Climate data management System" during my posting in National Climate Data Center,Pune, India. A certificate of successful completion of training was issued by Meteo - France in 2008.

Trend analysis of temperatures
In this paper a long series of temperature and humidity data is applied to trend analysis for a period of 1951-60 to find out Human Comfort index (HI). The results suggests increasing trend of HI in almost all the regions of India during the study period. Averaged over the country, HI is increasing during summer and monsoon seasons at the rate of +0.56 °C/decade and +0.32 °C/decade respectively which is statistically significant at 95% level.
Variability and trends in low cloud cover over India during 1961-2010
trends in low cloud cover over India were analyzed 1961-2010. There is a general decrease in mean low cloud cover over most regions of India during season. Annual mean low cloud cover shows significant decreasing trend of -0.45% per decade. Data analyses show that low cloud cover is having a strong negative correlation with maximum temperature and diurnal temperature range and a strong positive correlation with numbers of rainy days during the period of study.
Trends in Diurnal Temperature Range over India & relationship with Low Cloud Cover and Rainy Days
A study carried out to analyze the annual, seasonal spatial patterns of trends in mean maximum temperature (MMAX), mean minimum temperature (MMIN) and diurnal temperature range (DTR = MMAX-MMIN) in India during [login to view URL] study has revealed uneven changes in DTR across regions and time of the year in India.
Analysis of weekly rainfall during rainy season over Safdarjung airport of Delhi for 20th century
The analysis of weekly rainfall and of different period during rainy season of Safdarjang airport using techniques like trend, decile, decadal analysis is to see any changes during the entire period. 1901 to 2000 is utilized for this location. As week is a shorter period to analyze rainfall for the season groups of different periods consisting of 4 weeks such as 1-4 as ‘A’, 5-8 as ‘B’ and so on up to ‘D’ is formed.
Observational aspects of life cycle of a distinct squall line over Assam valley
A squall line of about 180 km in length was observed on 24 th April, 2007 over Assam valley with widespread heavy spells of rainfall and wind speed reaching 70 kmph. An attempt is made to analyze life cycle of squall line including genesis, growth and decay explained by synoptic and meso-scale features.
Nowcasting of Thunderstorm using ground based GPS over Guwahati Airport of India
International Airport of Guwahati is highly prone to severe thunderstorms. The study utilizes IPWV data recorded by GPS thunderstorm A skewed normal curve was identified in each matured thunderstorm. It is also observed that the peak of curve and commencement of rainfall generally coincides. Equations of these three polynomial curves were worked out and limits of +1 and -1 are assigned which will enable to track consecutive six observations. For this a suitable computer program is developed.
Observational aspects and analysis of events of severe thunderstorms
A Pilot project on 'Severe Thunderstorm Observation and Regional Modeling (STORM)' was undertaken by the Department of Science and Technology during April and May 2006. Regional Meteorological Centre, Guwahati too participated in this project and attempted to monitor each and every severe thunderstorm event. A total of 62 events have been identified on 30 days during 1st April to 25th May. Significant features of all these events are discussed in detail by analyzing data.
Qualitative Prediction of monsoon rainfall total for Assam and Meghalaya
An attempt is made to predict total monsoon rainfall amount for the area based on 115 yaers of monthly monsoon seasonal data. A technique like Normalized Precipitation Index is used. A logic is developed for chances of Normal,High,Low,Ex-hig and Ex -low rainfall total.
Heavy rainfall analysis over northwest part of India
Study utilizes daily rainfall data from 1941-90 of monsoon period in respect of 18 stations of Northwest part of of India . Heavy rainfall is defined as daily rainfall greater than 50 mm. Attempt has been made to find whether the frequency of such heavy falls follow some regular pattern or not. rainfall over these stations was also subjected to statistical analysis to decreasing or increasing tendency. Regression lines are fitted with respect to time.
High wind speed monitoring and recording system – a proven technology
Surface Instrumentation Division,IMD,Pune has developed ingenuously High wind speed monitoring and recording system which were installed at 20 coastal stations of India for continuous recording and monitoring of wind speed in knots per minute and direction during passage of cyclone. It has proved its capability by sending uninterrupted data during Hudhud very severe cyclonic storm.
Weather observations during ancient Indian times and Technological Development during 20 th century
The article traces the historical background since 3000 B.C.E. of the Indian philosophy which provides clear evidence about deep knowledge of atmospheric [login to view URL] it was understood that rains come from the sun. India Meteorological Department (IMD) a principal government agency initiated expansion of its infrastructure during 20th century for meteorological observation system.
