Full Stack Web Developer

As a solo freelancer working directly with my clients, "Full Stack" doesn't quite reach everything I do. I'll work with you starting from any point. Have nothing but an idea? I can help you take your idea and develop a functional spec that we can use to make your idea a reality. Have a functional spec and need it fleshed out with a database schema? I can take your concept, develop a database schema that fits your project, and build out the system from there.

Need help figuring out what components your system needs to bring your idea to life? I can determine...

- The best technologies for your project (MySQL? Redis? Both?)

- Whether you need a single, monolithic application or various micro-apps working together

- Where/how to host it (Shared hosting? VPS? Scalable cloud platform?)

And of course, when all the pre-planning is done, I will build your application using modern PHP/Javascript/CSS/HTML approaches and tools, track development in a Git repository with everything backed up securely offsite, help put together a deployment path for quick updates down the road, and in general do everything my decade+ experience has equipped me to do in making your project a success.

Working on my Master's in Computer Science at Clemson University (2004) didn't have much to do with web development, but during that time I worked as a Junior Unix Sysadmin helping support the department's unix/linux servers and workstations. I learned a lot about shell scripting (long live BASH!), editor wars (if you use emacs, well...that's alright), and most importantly, about how to really run a problem to ground and find solutions when failing simply isn't an option. My thesis research on fragmented proxy caching of streaming media is now woefully out of date, but the lessons I learned about code testing and efficiency will stay with me forever (beware the seemingly harmless nested loop!!)

I've been doing this full time since 2011, and love (almost) every minute of it. I certainly will not be the perfect fit for every job, but I may be the perfect fit for you and yours. I hope we have the chance to talk about it!

And finally - I love music, largely singer/songwriter acoustic stuff.
