VIRILIUM! – QUOTES SOUGHT FOR BOOK COVER DESIGN AND, IF POSSIBLE, ALSO FOR TEXT FORMATTING
My name is Andrew Jolesz, and I am a Sydney based Aussie writer. Please find attached the following:
1. The text for the back cover which promotionally describes what my book is about. I hope this can legibly fit on the back of a 5x8 inch or 5.5x8.5 inch cover – otherwise I would have to condense it. The novel, which is essentially Near Future Science Fiction, is internationally oriented - albeit with some Aussie elements baked in - and the plan is to publish in both ebook and paperback versions through a U.S. “aggregator”, most likely IngramSpark.
2. A concept artwork put together by my computer-savvy adult son. This would make your task much quicker and easier, as it is quite close to what I have in mind. However, my son has advised that a professional digital graphic artist would be best for finishing touches and appropriate formatting of the cover for publication. As explained above, the cover should suit both ebook and paperback.
Going back to the attached picture, the meteorite should be slightly smaller relative to the blue earth below. The asteroid strike on east Africa plays a crucial role in launching the tale but is by no means intended as a planet buster. Africa should be the featured continent on the blue earth below. DNA is an essential motif of the story and therefore the DNA double helix forming the V is close to perfect as is, though I have an open mind about any improvement you may wish to suggest.
The spine of the book should show the title VIRILIUM! in block letters, followed by my pen-name JULIUS ANDERS in slightly smaller caps.
TEXT FORMATTING – IF POSSIBLE. A QUOTE FOR COVER ALONE IS ALSO OF INTEREST
The novel is currently complete on my computer in Microsoft Word. It is not very long – about 50,000 words but every word counts – and would not call for internal ornamentation
The book trim will most likely be about 5.5 inches x about 8 to 8.5 inches, but your cover design would need to be “elastic” in this regard. As mentioned above, I envisage that both EPUB and presumably PDF for paperback would be required
In principle, I could do the formatting myself, using available software programs, some of them free. However, as my IT skills are not on a par with my writing proficiency, I would be quite happy to place it in your capable hands, for a moderate fee. A satisfactory co-operation between us would likely lead to repeat commissions, as I already have another potential “best seller”- I hope – almost finished. The cover of this slightly related novel, Women’s Tennis, will be less amenable to straightforward computer graphics, with greater creative input by the graphic artist – sorry if this first one is a little easy.
I look forward to getting your quote or quotes soon. This should mark the start of a productive relationship.
Thanks & regards
