If asked, I think every software developer would say they also work for themselves. Just like everyone else, I too have been paid to do small and medium sized projects in my spare time. These have been both native Windows applications, as well as websites. They continue to be a great opportunity to try out new technologies and practices. The only downside is the extra complications at tax time.

In order to move overseas, I resigned from emerchants. Upon resigning, I was invited to continue working remotely as a contractor. This allowed me to focus solely on producing good software, without some of the distractions associated with a full-time office job. Working from home has not only given me more freedom, but also a lot of perspective. It's been an up and down experience, but well worth it.

In addition to below, I put a lot of time and energy into architecture, process, technology, and automation improvements aimed at increasing the teams productivity, and decreasing the risk of software defects. I was recognised on several occasions for going to extra mile to ensure our customers received the best product possible.
