This example illustrates possibilities of a Google-like interactive event calendar in a powerful CodeIgniter PHP framework. It's using dhtmlxScheduler, an Open-Source JavaScript calendar that provides an event scheduling interface with drag-and-drop capabilities and AJAX support. Events can be displayed in Day/Week/Month/Year views and edited by the end-user on the client side. It includes Ion_auth - simple and lightweight authentication library for the CodeIgniter framework.
