Civil engineering Post Doc - with extreme ambition
My day job is "egineer for unique structures". A consultant.
I work on a large variety of structures and components. From various materials. Wrestling with various standards - Eurocodes, DNV, ASTM. Applying them for unique problems.
Doing a Ph.D. (and a Post Doc) I built an industrial laboratory. With massive hydralic pistons (PID controlled), emectric motors. Designed robot frames. Ran the lab between teaching and passing exams.
In the process I've ended up picking my favorite software. Inventor NASTRAN. It seems to be priced fairly. And works pretty well. So, on my spare time I keep expanding my skill set - by doing private orders.
I do hope to some day open my own design office. And to do so, I will need to be able to recognize the best talent. Which means I have to know how things work and how to do things correctly - before I ask anyone else for assistance. And as it is, at this day, I'm quite independent already :)
A consultant, for unique structures.
I have a Post Doc in engineering. Meaning - a deep understanding of simulations, modelling of physical material properties. Which empowers to find unique solutions for a wide range of problems.
Doing 3D drawings and technical sketches. Designing things according to standards. Etc.

While "studying" I was working. They hired me in the lab.
Designed and built heavy equipment. Did maintanance and operated of hydraulics. Built, designed and coded 3t tobots, that push with 20t force... The diploma says "geotechnician", ignoring I built the very equipment used for testing foundation strength...
I threw my thesis into the trashcan on my way out. And baught 3D CAD software. For that's what I "really did", "truly learned".
