Young-adult fantasy fiction book cover design
Tim’s design suggestion was to have a magpie flying towards the reader with a dragon in pursuit. The aim was for the magpie to be the main focus of the cover. However, when flying, magpies spread their wings very widely. It was going to be hard—if not, impossible—to have a flying magpie on the cover without having to shrink it considerably. That’s why I came up with the idea of having the magpie sitting on a branch in full close-up. The dragon was in secondary plane, ferociously getting ready to attack the magpie. It was a great compromise. And that also made the cover highly visible as an eBook. Color wise, I used strong contrasts and warm hues. Font wise, the fantasy type seemed the best option. The overall mood I went for was action-adventure, fun, and magic.
About Me
I am a passionate, self-taught graphic designer focused on creating out-of-the-box designs. I am grateful for my vivid imagination, as well as my ability to perceive words through images, compositions, and colors. I have a versatile style, being able to create both minimalistic and rich designs, depending on what my clients need. I do use stock images in my designs, but I rarely use them as-is. Most times, I combine different elements and images in order to create an original scene. My favorite tools are Photoshop, InDesign, and a Wacom Tablet. I have very strong work ethics, based on integrity, hard work, and respect. My ultimate goal is to learn as much as possible, and to make people happy through my art!
