Tay-Sachs disease is one of the notorious inherited diseases. It is commonly found among the individuals of the Ashkenazi Jewish population. Ganglioside, a chemical found in the nerve cells is broken down with the help of a protein called hexosaminidase A. But, when hexosaminidase A is absent or defective one, Tay-Sachs disease happens to occur. Most of the time individuals might be the carriers of this deadly disease but when both the parents (mother and father) are carriers and each of them transfers the diseased or defective gene to the offspring, Tay-Sachs disease appears. This disease may be infantile, juvenile and adult type depending upon the time it appears. Most of the time parents are encountered with the infantile Tay-Sachs disease which can be detected during antenatal care and pregnancy visits to the hospital
