A Chapbook of Poetry: Two Hands Prairie
The brief is to make a chapbook with the size of 10 cm x 14 cm. The chapbook is heavily emphasized on technical grids with two pairings of typeface.\n \nPoetry is chosen because its line break give more freedom to execute its sentence with ease yet still manage to keep it as a whole. Each sentence has a strong purpose and underlying meaning which trigger more creative ways to explore it using mere leading, tracking, and font size.\n \nI use modular scale with perfect fifth (2:3) scalling. The switchpot is 9 pt with 4 columns and 1.185 pt baseline grid. The typefaces I choose are Trade Gothic Bold and Adobe Caslon Pro, because Caslon is one of the most versatile Old Style serifs. Its neutrality lets the informal and modern Trade Gothic Bold delivers strong personality for a headline without competing for attention. Both typefaces are highly readable, with a tall x-height, and combine well.
