Working as technical developer in charge of the deployment and support of the operative system and educative applications in all the public schools of Extremadura. The main tasks were/are: - Development of a Linux installer customized for the teacher needs (2002-2006) - Design of the architecture of the system from the Regional Ministry of Education site to every single computer in every school. The design included both the network map and the services to be installed in every machine. - Setup of the needed servers - Setup of workstations, thin clients and laptops - Development of the needed educative customization and applications - Research on the international free software community for the solutions that might apply to this project - Collaboration with international groups involved in similar projects - Support the teachers and technicians in the schools - Design and deploy the periodic upgrades of the servers, teachers and student machines, improving every possible aspect in order to provide a better user experience in the schools This project has entirely been completed using free software, mainly software included in the Debian distribution. When Debian didn't provide the necessary tools, these tools have been re-adapted from other projects, or even developed by us, and then, included in the Debian archive. To achieve the goals above, these skills have been used: - Python, PHP, Bash Scripting, Smalltalk and JavaScript Programming - C and Java knowledge (including some pilot projects using GWT & GAE) - In-Deep knowledge in network services in Linux (DHCP, Ldap, DNS, LTSP, etc.) - Network and telecommunications knowledges - Systems administrations knowledge, specially in distributed environment using tools like virtualization (xen, kvm) and IT automation software as cfengine and, specially, Puppet. - Deep knowledge of a Linux distribution, specially Debian and its derivatives, including installation, distribution, packaging, etc.
