I have been a web designer for approximately 6 years. This has been my main passion since I graduated in 2003 from the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology (UMIST) with a Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Computing and Geography Joint Honours: Grade 2.1. My experience covers all types. I have worked as the sole Web Project Manager at medium sized companies, and I have also worked as a freelancer where I produced small to medium sized websites for local businesses. The websites that I create are always to the latest standards, and to a high level of detail. I always build websites which are easily maintainable for the customer and I also optimise the site so that Google can index it easily i.e. the websites are built with Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) in mind. If required, I can also setup the website domain name and hosting through one of the main UK hosting companies. This can be discussed with the customer. I have 30 months commercial experience in I.T / Systems Administration which I picked up when I worked for myself at Rossendale Web Design & Consultants Ltd. The work involved building PC systems for clients to meet their requirements and also providing support when they had technical issues with their Windows-based systems (both software and hardware related issues). I also gained valuable client-facing skills during this period of my career. On top of this, I also have 8 years of personal experience in Systems Administration. This experience has been gained through a variety of situations, with the main one being the administration of my own PC systems. Alongside this, friends and family always turn to me if there is a problem with any aspect of their home computing, whether it is a problem with Windows software, third party software, or internal or peripheral hardware. I have 7 years personal experience in the building of new high-end personal computers from scratch (and also updating PC's). I always keep up-to-date with the technology involved in PC systems, whether this is new software or hardware releases. I actually enjoy doing this and it is a hobby outside of work hours. I like to build my own PC system if I decide that it is time for a new one. I have built both 32-bit and 64-bit systems. Through the above situations I have picked up skills in: • The installation and configuration of the Microsoft Windows Operating System. • The installation and configuration of a large variety of third-party software for Microsoft Windows. • The installation and configuration of new hardware and their associated drivers. • Diagnosing and solving technical issues with the Microsoft Windows Operating System, third party software and peripheral hardware. • Analysing system logs and identifying potential issues with computer systems. • Introducing and integrating new technologies into existing PC environments. • Performing backups. • Applying operating system updates, patches, and configuration changes. • Adding, removing, or updating user account information, resetting passwords, etc. • Answering technical queries. • Being responsible for network and PC security: firewalls, anti-virus, anti-spyware, and anti-malware. • Troubleshooting any reported problems. • System performance tuning, especially Windows XP and Vista. • Ensuring that broadband network infrastructures are up and running.
