Routing is a term used for taking packets from one device and on a network and sending it to another device on a different network. Routers are concern with networks and the path or rout to reaching each network is by using logical network addresses and not with host addresses. They are not concern with individual network but with different network. For the various network to communicate, there must be a hand shake or request between the source Mac address and destination Mac address. You must configure both the router and interfaces connecting to the router. The fastethernet must have a default gate way address for it to communicate with the router. Because the grafic below is a Static routing configuration, it must have on its routing table, all the network address connected to the host.
