Project : STB_ED_AZURE-Verona (Client: Microsoft Corporation, Redmond, WA) Mar 2011 - Sep 2011 Description: SQL Azure Databaseis an cloud-based relational database service from Microsoft. SQL Azure provides Web-facing database functionality as a utility service. Cloud-based database solutions such as SQL Azure can provide many benefits, including rapid provisioning, cost-effective scalability, high availability, and reduced management overhead. VERONA tool is used to provide the information which helps the CSS to troubleshoot the SQL Azure. It provides a way to make the troubleshooting easier by providing the Dynamic Management views such as the Server Information View, ConnectivityView, ActivityTracingView, Throttling issues View, User Information View, Portal Issues View, Query Performance View, Service OperabilityView, EnvironmentHealthStatusView. The end-user can provide the Subscription ID or the Server Name and in some scenarios the Database Name, ActivityID, Time Period, Data center Location, Cluster Name etc. to fetch the relevant information. Responsibilities: • Implemented the WCF Service which will retrieve the details like Server Information details, Connectivity Failure Issues, Throttling Issues, Usage Information Request Issues, Watchdogs Details, Query Performance Issues and Machine Health Status from SQL Azure Database by providing the valid PHX Credentials. • Implemented the Security for WCF services using Certificate based authentication. • Implemented the code for migrating the Application into Windows Azure by creating the Web Roles. • Implemented the Service bus for connecting Azure hosted WCF Service with On-Premise WCF Service. Project: Database Sharding Tool for SQL Azure (Client: Microsoft Corporation, Redmond, WA) Nov 2010–Feb 2011 Description:This is a tool developed to make sharding of databases easy for clients having database larger than 50GB and willing to migrate their databases onto Azure i.e. SQL Azure. In SQL Azure, there is a limit of 50 GB (as on Oct ’10 CTP). If they have an on-premise database which has a DB Size of more than 50GB, they need to Sharding to divide the database into multiple databases which decrease the size of each database and hence would be easy to migrate these databases onto SQL Azure. This tool gives a base framework of how the client should approach to shard the databases and create shards. Options provided in the tool based on Data type of Column in a table are • Divide the database based on Numeric data type. • Divide the database based on String data type. • Divide the database based on Date Time data type. Responsibilities: • Developed a windows application which accepts inputs from client such as o Database to besharded o The Table in the database o Columnpresent in the selected table. o No. of Shards to becreated. • Based on the above inputs, with the Partition Logic written, implemented the code to create multiple shards using Horizontal Partitioning technique. • Implemented the code to upload already created Partition Logic XML and update it as per the new requirement and create new shards not affecting the existing shards for the same client. • Responsible for Unit Testing and Integration Testing. Environment: - VS 2010, SQL Server 2008, SQL Azure, C#, Windows 7. 4.
