Sustainable Solar Refrigeration Research Center
ASHRAE International Integrated Design Competition First Place winner. This solar refrigeration research center and office building was designed to be a net zero energy building. It utilizes solar tracking photovoltaic on the Southern facade for energy production. A VRF mechanical system was implemented to transfer heat from the research and development area to the office spaces within the building. Glcycol pipes ran to the nearby river to provide cooling during the summer months. The interior was designed to provide an ample amount of natural light. The intense summer light is shielded by the transparent photovoltaic panels. The colorful, open interior makes for a pleasant work environment.
