I have been employed as a full time graphic designer for 11 years, and am just starting out on contract. Together with my partner and our two children, we live in Whangarei. While I used to be really into the effects of Photoshop and its ease of use, I have moved more towards the very clean world of vector design - love it.
I own Adobe CS2, and have just purchased the Adobe CS4 upgrade.
Due to the unfortunate state of both - the economy and the field of work (everyone with Word, MS Paint and Comic Sans think they are a designer), my employer is cut costs. As I had expressed interest in the past in doing contract work - we now have an agreement and I am looking for other contract work also.
I treat my computer filing system the same as you would an actual filing cabinet. I list all work required and the date it is required by, this way I know I can have a job completed on time, and not let anyone down. You lose confidence in me and I lose work if I don’t get things done as agreed. Organising files and jobs gives me focus, start scattering your jobs, and your focus goes with it. Organisation is in my best interest.
§ There hasn’t been a field of work that I have been specialised in, so I have had much experience in:
Imposition, invoice sheets, business cards, brochures, cd covers, cd labels, posters, billboards, books (fiction, non-fiction, biography, childrens), flyers, mail merge, photo manipulation, newspaper advertising, magazine advertising, website advertising, wedding invites, swing tags, food product labels, letterheads, envelopes, gift vouchers, event tickets, party invites, note pads, folders, annual reports, postcards, logos, real estate signs, score cards, order books, certificates...There is bound to be more, but you get the idea I am sure.
