Academic Paper - Chicago style
Text Preview: Words, Words, Words: Language in Performance Theory Performance theory and criticism, born of a confluence of disciplines, has survived its infancy to develop into an unstable toddler-hood. Inadvertently or otherwise, there are two distinct sects of theorists out there propagating ideas: a somewhat elitist circle of intellectuals, and a larger circle of interdisciplinary performer-writers. While both groups want to share ideas, the vocabulary of the intellectuals is so dense that it prohibits meaning, which begs the question: who are they really writing for? Do they truly intend to foster an interest in this new field, or are they content to restrict it to those few linguistic experts who can decode their meanings in their overstuffed treatises on... whatever is their subject matter?
About Me
In addition to creative writing, I have a lot of experience in academic writing (Chicago and MLA), proofreading, and editing/review/feedback. Research is another specialty. I can locate and source information and compile abstracts, and synthesize research into concise, clear reports. In addition, I'm learning web design and have introductory experience with WordPress, HTML5 and CSS. I've also been playing with Blender, an open-source 3D creator, and have created a number of animated logos. As a former IT helpdesk rep, I have a lot of troubleshooting ability and am familiar with Windows up through Win 8, but am more of a Mac specialist. Take a look at my portfolio for examples of my work across various disciplines. You may notice that the majority of my academic writing concerns theatre: I hold an MFA in Acting and occasionally teach workshops, as well as act in Chicago.
