As an editor, I believe that good writing must be CLEAR and CONCISE. To be CLEAR, writing must not only be grammatical and well-organized, but must pass the "what-does-it-mean test". That is, careful critical thinking should be used to consider whether a sentence has its intended meaning, whether it needs to be disambiguated, and indeed whether it has any meaning at all. To be CONCISE, a writer must consider whether words are in fact necessary, whether shorter wording is feasible, and whether the entire sentence is even necessary.
I spend my time being meticulous in making a piece of writing clear and concise. At times, this may require me to ask you questions concerning your intended meaning.
In my 25 years of experience as an editor, I have edited mostly academic papers and theses, but also legal, medical, and business writing. In addition to my editing experience, I am fluent in German (native speaker level), and able to do any translations from German to English.
