Product Design

After concluding my career as a chef, I have studied for three years in the pursuit of object and furniture design. During this time, I have helped several clients with rapid prototyping, with good success. The skills I have developed include Computer Aided Design (CAD), Computer Aided Machining (CAM), CNC machining, wood working, fabrication, welding, sewing, and design in general. Because of the flexibility required to design my artwork, I am now adept at working with agility and speed, and so we are uniquely able to offer FULLY CUSTOMIZED, RAPID AND RESPONSIVE PROTOTYPING SERVICES. I can do complex, industry-ready work such as fixtures, test models, brackets, etc. I have a skilled, flexible team to produce excellent work for you, on time and cost-efficiently. Matt Worldly is a respected Painter and Light Artist in the Santa Fe Arts District. He and Nicholas collaborated on Accensis as the first demonstration of stressed fabric backlist projection artwork. The inspiration was Matt’s development of a sophisticated, organic, light refraction and reflection methodology at his Denver studio. The light piece, entitled Consistent Sea of Consciousness is a live, uninterrupted, un-edited and entirely extemporaneous capture of light through natural glass objects to evoke meditations on the complexity and impossibly faceted nature of reality. A 100% un-edited live recording. Nicholas’s task was to provide an organic, flowing platform for the Piece which mimics some of the elastic, refractory elements of the piece. Therefore, Accensis is constructed of flowing Coffee-nut and Poplar rubs which sequester the translucent stretch fabric to create an exactly tailored project platform.

I remember the garish design styles of the mid-seventies from my childhood in Miami Beach. White Leather, geometric forms, and cold colors populated a number of fancy homes back then. This set of four chairs evokes the mid-seventies cocaine culture of the wealthy in New York and Miami. They wore Cardin and Halston, and partied all night. The chairs are modular; able to combine in numerous combinations, and the chair backs are lumber-height and weight bearing, allowing tons of positions for napping, reading, sunbathing, or of course - snorting cocaine. Cocaine are made of machined Aluminum, Colored Resin, Baltic Birch Plywood, and Synthetic Leather. LED lighting inside becomes apparent after dark, and runs uninterrupted for ten days. Charges Overnight.

This project was about learning to cut atypical novel joints for connecting hardwood. This process involved developing machining fixtures and implementing new tool extensions. This quickly proved to be challenging, especially when machining exceptionally tough Maple Hardwood. Having learned these angled techniques, the team has unlocked an infinite amount of undiscovered joinery methods. This, in turn, allows joints between objects with complex multi-axis curves to exist. Some of the joineries that we will discover that will also be new to the furniture world include; Pivotal, Longitudinal Slot, Angle-to-Lock, Angled Side-by-Side, Parallel Slide, etc.
