Report and Research Writing
Stanford Experiment The Stanford experiment was a research conducted concerning the mental consequences of becoming a prison guard or a prisoner. The experiment was carried out at Stanford University from 14th, August to 20th, August in 1971 by a group of investigators headed by psychology lecturer Philip Zimbardo. The United States Office of Naval Research financed it, and mostly the Marine Corps and US Navy had interest in it as a research into the reasons for disagreement between prisoners and military guards. 24 male scholars out of 75 were chosen to undertake randomly allocated responsibilities of guards and prisoners in a mock jail located in the underground room of the Stanford psychology structure. Zimbardo and his group intended to experiment the theory that the natural character attributes of guards and inmates are the main cause of violent deeds in detention centers. Partakers were signed up and informed they would take part in a two-week penitentiary imitation.
