Snapshotting a VM with the company file open can restore corrupt, so the two run in sequence rather than together. Performance: QuickBooks Desktop is single-threaded and disk-bound. Fewer fast cores beat many slow ones, the company file sits on local NVMe rather than network storage, and roughly 4GB RAM per concurrent user plus the OS. Security: I would not expose RDP to the internet at all, whatever the password policy. Port 3389 open is the most common ransomware entry point in small deployments. Access goes through an RD Gateway over TLS on 443, or a WireGuard tunnel, with the firewall closed to everything else.
