I am seeking a versatile Chinese translator/assistant for a research interview project, who is able to perform the following tasks:
-Translate an interview questionnaire featuring case studies followed by interview questions from English into Chinese, ensuring that the original meaning is fully conveyed
-Find appropriate interview participants to complete the interview questionnaire in accordance with the required demographic. Interview participants must be paid for their time, and this is factored into the project's budget structure.
-Confirm interview interview participants with the interview questionnaire's creator
-Once interview participants have been confirmed, have participants complete the interview questionnaire. The questionnaire must be completed as a face to face interview in the presence of the translator. The translator will read each case study to the participants, followed by the interview questions. The translator will then transcribe interview participants' original answers in Chinese, to be subsequently translated from Chinese into English. The interviews should be recorded, both as verification that they have taken place, and to ensure full transcription of answers, as well as to allow for further discussion/research. If the translator does not have access to appropriate recording equipment, the project's budget is intended to provide for the purchase of such equipment.
-Once interviews have been conducted, translate transcribed responses from Chinese into English, preserving the original Chinese answers with their English translations.
-Return the interview questionnaire to the project's creator, along with all relevant material (including recordings, transcriptions etc).
Interview questionnaire information:
The interview questionnaire is intended as an inter-cultural project. It is designed to investigate the attitudes of Chinese-speaking women toward the practice of circumcising baby boys, and towards the foreskins of baby boys more generally as it occurs in English-speaking cultures. Each case-study therefore focuses on the situation of a baby boy living in an English-speaking setting. Because of the specific subject-matter of the interview questionnaire, prospective participants must have prior experience of interacting with/caring for baby boys, though they need not necessarily be mothers. Because the focus for this project is on the quality of survey answers rather than the number of participants, only 3 to five participants would be needed at most, and this is open to negotiation. The multi-tasked nature of the project that budget and deadlines are fully flexible.
