My father's parents emigrated from Italy to the United States in about 1905. My grandfather's real last name was rarely used in the US and most often misspelled and I have to link up the misspelled documents, such as birth certificate of my father, death certificates, naturalization papers, baptismal certificate, my divorce papers and any number of other documents required by a picky Italian consulate concerning my Italian Grandparents, my Italian father and non-Italian mother, myself and my children. Roughly guessing that the translations will involve 150 to 350 pages.
All of the names of the people relevant to the citizenship application in the various documents have to be meticulously correct. However, the rest of the documents should definitely not be sloppy but don't have to be absolutely perfect. (Like for instance, translating a contract from English to Italian or vice verse) For instance, I am sure for instance that the Italian consulate doesn't care that the names of the streets of several properties I have owned be 100% correctly spelled in every instance in the divorce agreement that I filed.
My hearing before the Italian consulate is not until October of 2021 so there is no rush. Depending on what qualified people think is fair, I am thinking of paying in increments of 10 pages. (Will find someone locally [Ohio USA] to briefly review the translations to make sure they are adequate before I pay) If someone gets paid 10 pages in increments, it is easier for both sides to understand what is needed as we go along. Rather than getting a lot of work done and then having a misunderstanding as to what is required.
I am attaching the Italian consulate (Detroit branch) checklist of documents so that potential translators will have a better idea of what needs to be done.
