I need to run a mysql server on a fairly big machine,
it has 64GB ram, and two quad processors.
The DB files are stored in the same server.
Runs on Ubuntu 9.10 64bits
MySQL is not the only one process,
the server also runs a memory hungry Ruby on Rails app.
Tweaking queries is not an option,
I am only requesting the best mysql conf possible for this scenario.
I am using InnoDB tables,
and want to configure MySQL to be as fast possible and to make use of as many memory caches as possible from the configuration itself.
The systems has many read-writes even per each request,
there are all relatively small in therms of size,
although it writes once every hundred reads.
The web system doesn't have many requests per second,
but each request tends to be a heavy one.
Probably although they could be about 100 users logged in,
no more than 60 requests will be sent during the same minute.
You have to provide a very well tweaked [url removed, login to view] file for mysql to make best/full use of the machine resources,
with comments explaining each of the settings,
and why not an alternative to each.

I have some general ideas on improving performance, but fine tuning would require access to a mysql prompt, or perhaps Phpmyadmin to get performance stats.
