I have my own server with 32 gig ram using centos linux and lxlabs control panel with openvz.
Want to have a VZ dedicated to magento shops with as much ram as required pushed to it. Magento seems to be a pig and slow, but I have seen shops that were optimized by experts that did work reasonable fast.
I set up apache and suphp and ran into updating issues and had to switch back to modphp, and this is not so comfortable for security, but if required is ok. LXlabs Supports apache/lighttpd, djbdns/bind and eaccelerator/xCache.
I am wondering is possible to run in lighttpd to further speed. Also on magento help are a lot of comments on optimizing my sql for magento. it runs on and on with no clear optimizing process, my feeling is admins that really know how to optimize are keeping it private and the balance is nonsence chatter :)
I am looking for admin that knows exactly how to get the maximium speeds from Magento and can advise and help set up server foundation properly. There is a possibilty of installing a separate server to just handle mysql if that is required?
To get job you must have extensive mysql, server admin and magento experience and also hopefully be able to provide a few sites actually set up by yourself using Magento currently.
Magento is such a beasty it does require experience. The other possibility is that if you can prove your linux and admin experience and want to get involved in Magento and set up and test various configurations that may be acceptable alternative as long as price is kept low while your learning.
I chose the lower price for project as I think if someone knows exactly what they are doing should be able to come in on this budget however would entertain larger if required and you can advise and enter placeholder bid.

I don't have experience with Magento, but I did spent many happy hours trying to squeeze as much as possible from heavily loaded linux/apache(lighthttpd, nginx)/php/mysql servers.
