I need to prepare a solution to column-mount telecommunications cabinets in high-bay industrial-style spaces. During visits to several customer sites, we've identified a variety of methods that have been used in the past, most of which consist of assemblies of strut and threaded rod. The customer spec requires only that the cabinets...
"...shall be attached to Work Room Floor Column via double-nutted 5/8” All-Thread/Uni-Strut or a metal platform welded to the column. The bottom of each cabinet shall be 9’ AFF. Uni-Strut/All-Thread/Platform shall be designed to support a minimum of 1000 lbs., be firmly connected to the column and or the overhead building support structure and shall meet all codes and seismic requirements."
The cabinets are 24"w x 32" deep x 87" tall and weigh 385 lbs, and have front and rear hinged doors. We need to come up with a standard assembly of strut and rod (rather than welded platforms) that we can use as a design typical for sites nation-wide.
We're for a licensed structural engineer or PE, who can provide expertise and a stamped/approved design for a uni-strut mounting/support system. Must have an engineering license in the United States (California or Virginia preferred).
