Our in-house created document control software has been running smoothly on a C#/.NET stack, MS SQL Server, and AWS for several years, but the developer who built and nurtured it is leaving. I need someone who can step in right away, understand the codebase, and keep the software/application stable and performant. This web application targets .NET Framework 4.8 using ASP.NET MVC 4 ([login to view URL] 4.0.20505.0), with Razor 2.0 and WebPages 2.0. Supporting services are also on .NET 4.5 and .NET 4.0. Key aspects of the application: 1. It’s effectively built on ASP.NET MVC without Web API usage. 2. The system runs on AWS (Sydney): one EC2 instance for IIS/web server handling documents stored locally and managing mail queue services, while another EC2 instance manages self-hosted SQL Server. 3. Deployment is manual (Visual Studio file copy to IIS) with no pipeline, containerization, or CI/CD implementation. 4. Entity Framework used is database-first EDMX model with ObjectContext API targeting SQL Server 2008-level T-SQL. 5. There’s minimal logging or monitoring configured—no external libraries currently integrated for this purpose. 6. Areas needing attention include large controller files with business logic embedded (e.g., a single controller has over 4,700 lines), performance shortfalls (e.g., synchronous actions, N+1 queries), outdated dependencies, improper error handling (e.g., silent exception swallowing in certain functionalities), configuration mismatches like maxRequestLength versus IIS upload cap, plain-text storage of SMTP credentials in [login to view URL] (to be rotated during handover), and security concerns like using sa for database connections. 7. External dependency exists with Muhimbi PDF conversion service integration. Deliverables include: • Resolving all immediate stability bugs • Suggesting prioritized improvements to system maintainability • Improving performance bottlenecks such as asynchronous patterns or query efficiency where applicable • Weekly summaries of accomplished tasks, risks spotted, and recommendations moving forward. The Git repository, SQL scripts, and complete walkthrough by the outgoing developer will be provided during onboarding.

This is really a production takeover rather than a typical bug-fixing project, and the knowledge transfer from your departing developer is an important part of making that transition safe. I’d begin by mapping the ASP.NET application, Entity Framework usage, SQL Server queries and AWS setup, while reviewing the existing deployment, logging and monitoring process. Before claiming performance improvements, I’d establish baseline metrics for the key APIs/queries, CPU and memory, then work from the actual bottlenecks. Production fixes would go through a controlled test/deploy process with the changes documented in Git. For ongoing support, I’d keep communication simple: incidents and fixes tracked as they occur, performance work measured against the baseline, and a concise weekly summary covering completed work and risks. Could you share the .NET version and explain what monitoring/deployment process is currently in place? I’d also like to understand the expected response time for production incidents so I can propose the right support model.

I don't just have a solid 20-year background in software engineering. My work history also includes detailed experience in the very technologies your document management system relies on, such as C#, .NET, MS SQL Server, and T-SQL tuning. That means your transition will be seamless and your system will remain performant and stable while I work on it – you can trust me not to introduce additional issues. Additionally, my project management skills only improve communication and delivery speed. I'm no stranger to working with code repositories (like Git), have extensive familiarity with AWS resources (such as EC2, RDS, S3), and commit myself -annually, pray tell!- to keeping abreast of AWS practices. Basically, I come equipped with the know-how for proactive monitoring that limits downtime and swiftly resolves production incidents; so you never need to worry about frequent 're-base-lining'. Lastly, my PMP certification speaks volumes about my organizational abilities - precisely what this project needs. For instance, I plan on leveraging my well-developed documentation practices to ensure you receive cleanup summaries every week outlining what's been optimized, what bugs are squashed by whom, and why certain decisions were taken. Trust me when I say that my hiring would help you maintain the productivity strides you've made on this project; I look forward to making them together!

Your platform's biggest risk right now isn't a bug list. It's the context leaving with the developer who built it. That's why I'd treat the walkthrough as the priority: capturing the why behind the design, the fragile spots, and the deploy quirks, not just reading the code. That knowledge is what usually disappears and causes production surprises weeks later. From there I'd establish a baseline before touching anything, so every change is measured, not guessed. For the slow queries you expect, I work from actual execution plans and SQL Server's missing-index DMVs rather than assumptions, and in Entity Framework apps the first culprit is often N+1 queries from lazy loading on a hot endpoint. On the AWS side, RDS and CloudWatch metrics usually show whether a slowdown is really the query or an undersized instance before anyone spends on a bigger box. Each fix ships with before/after numbers and a Git note, plus the short weekly summary you outlined, including risks I spot early. To start concretely: which part of the system worries you most about the handover? That's where I'd focus the walkthrough first.

Hi — Elias here from Miami. I see you need support for your in-house .NET document management platform. It’s crucial to ensure the system remains reliable and meets your organizational needs. What usually matters most here is maintaining performance as document load increases and ensuring user permissions are handled correctly. A common issue in systems like this is managing the complexity of integrations, which can lead to scalability challenges if not addressed early. My approach would involve analyzing the current architecture to identify potential bottlenecks and refactoring problematic areas to enhance maintainability. I would focus on implementing robust database practices to ensure data integrity and efficient querying, vital for user experience. I've worked on similar .NET systems that required careful state management and integration with external APIs, ensuring smooth operations under load. A few questions to better understand the scope: Q1 – What specific integrations do you currently have, and are any planned soon? Q2 – Are there particular user roles or permissions that need special attention? Q3 – What are your expectations for scaling and future features we should consider now? Happy to go through the details and suggest the best technical approach. Looking forward to hearing from you.

Hi, I am a senior software engineer based in Canada. I’m available for a video call if you’d like a quick handover and to align priorities. From your description the core need is rapid ramp-up + keeping production stable: quick triage of edge-case bugs, T-SQL hot spots, and cost/performance tuning on EC2/RDS. I’ve stepped into similar .NET codebases, done targeted EF query fixes, and reduced query latency and CPU by focusing first on the slowest transactions and problematic SQL plans. My initial approach: shadow the departing developer, run lightweight profiling (application and DB), prioritise fixes that measurably reduce load, and add simple monitoring/alerts so incidents are caught early. I’ll document each production fix in Git and provide weekly summaries as you requested. A couple of quick questions: 1. Is there an existing APM or SQL monitoring tool in place (AppInsights, NewRelic, Sentry, etc.)? 2. Any maintenance windows or deployment constraints I should know about? Thanks, Paul

Hi, I can take over the existing C#/.NET + MS SQL Server + AWS application and provide ongoing maintenance, bug fixing, and performance optimization without disrupting the production environment. My approach would be to first understand the architecture and existing workflows with the departing developer, establish performance baselines, review the .NET/Entity Framework code and SQL queries, and then progressively address bugs and bottlenecks. I can also review EC2, RDS, and S3 configuration for AWS-side performance and reliability improvements. Why choose me: I have strong experience with C#, .NET, ASP.NET, SQL Server, Entity Framework, AWS, APIs, and production application maintenance, and can work directly within an existing codebase rather than requiring a rebuild. I’ll provide verified fixes through Git, document changes, measure performance improvements, and send a concise weekly summary of completed work and risks. I’m available to start immediately and can arrange the onboarding session with your departing developer. Thanks.
