I need a well documented JPEG picture analysis software which would go through images in the directory and all of its sub-directories and compare every individual image to the master image supplied. It would compare the image according to the overall darkness of the image - please suggest the method of comparism. The comparism threshold will be defined on a CLI. This sill be commad-line only software - no UI. When the picture matches the threshold it will be moved to the same file path structure as the original path, but with a specific prefix.
The color/darkness analysis cannot be done on a per-pixel basis - it needs to either include the group of pixels or a whole image to compare against.
Think of this as a method of motion analysis from large batch of pictures.
All pieces of the software used have to be either under open-source license or self-writen. I also need the sources of the software and Il compile the software myself. Perl, Python or other - suggest. The software needs to run on both - Linux and Mac from one codebase.
Suggested: Imagemagick wrapper
Please try to be somehow specific in the project description.

I'll write a small and documented python script that will compute the overall brightness of all your jpeg files. It will run flawlessly on any python installation and will make use of the PIL library.
