PART I – Explore the Radio Frequency Spectrum
The radio spectrum in the United States can loosely be defined as the frequencies between 3 kHz and 300 GHz. For each of the frequency bands listed, summarize the services allocated to each band, briefly define each service present, and provide a one or two sentence characterization of the spectrum’s suitability (i.e. short range, line of sight, susceptible to interference from atmospheric conditions, etc.)
Medium Frequency (MF) - 3 kHz to 300 kHz
Low Frequency (LF) - 300 kHz to 3 MHz
High Frequency (HF) - 3 MHz to 30 MHz
Very High Frequency (VHF) - 30 MHz to 300 MHz
Ultra High Frequency (UHF) - 300 MHz to 3 GHz
Super High Frequency (SHF) - 3 GHz to 30 GHz
Extremely High Frequency (EHF) - 30 GHz to 300 GHz
PART II – Deployment of Licensed Spectrum
Search the FCC Database at [login to view URL] to determine the holdings for one spectrum licensee (AT&T, Verizon, etc.). Browse the licenses the company holds. Briefly provide an overview of the company’s holdings and explain in general the characteristics of their licensed portfolio. Please do not list every license owned or market served.
