Job Brief — Deploy the Invoice Printer app has had a custom Shopify app built that automatically generates PDF invoices when an order is paid, stores them for future reference, and prints them to two shop printers via PrintNode. The codebase is complete and has been supplied. This brief covers everything needed to take it from code to a live, working app on our own server and our own Shopify account. Estimated effort: 4–8 hours for someone comfortable with Linux/Docker and Shopify app basics, assuming server and account access is provided up front. Charged as a fixed-scope job or hourly, as agreed. What the app does • Watches for orders being marked “paid” on the connected Shopify store. • Generates a branded PDF invoice for that order: company name/address/logo, invoice number, itemised lines with SKU, VAT broken out by rate, any discount code applied, and a footer note. • Stores every invoice permanently in the app so it can be found, downloaded, or re-printed later. • Sends the invoice automatically to two printers via a PrintNode connection, configured per store. • Writes a secure, unguessable download link onto the order so it can be shown in Shopify's own order confirmation email. • Lets us edit our company details, logo, invoice number format, and PrintNode printers from inside the app — no code changes needed for day-to-day use. What we'll provide the developer • The app codebase (a zip file). • SSH access to our VPS — Fasthosts VPS 4 Max, Ubuntu 26.04. • Access to our Shopify Partners account (as a staff/collaborator, or we can create the app ourselves and hand over the Client ID/secret). • A subdomain we control (e.g. [login to view URL]) and access to point its DNS at the VPS. • A PrintNode account and API key for testing the print flow (or confirmation to test with a placeholder printer until ours is connected). Scope of work 1. Create the app in Shopify Partners • Create the app manually in Partners (not from a template). • Set distribution to Custom distribution and select our store(s) — this app is not going on the public Shopify App Store. • Note the Client ID and Client secret. • Set the App URL and redirect URLs to our chosen subdomain (exact values are in the project's [login to view URL] / README). 2. Prepare the VPS • Install Docker and Docker Compose on the VPS. • Open firewall ports 80 and 443. • Point our subdomain's DNS A record at the VPS's IP address. 3. Deploy the app • Copy the project files to the VPS (git clone or rsync). • Copy .[login to view URL] to .env and fill in: Shopify Client ID/secret, the app URL, a database password, and a generated encryption key. openssl rand -hex 32 # generates the ENCRYPTION_KEY value • Run the stack: docker compose up -d --build • Confirm both containers (the app and its Postgres database) are healthy via docker compose logs -f app. 4. Put HTTPS in front of it • Install nginx and certbot on the VPS. • Use the nginx config template included in the project (deploy/[login to view URL]) as the site config. • Run certbot for our subdomain to issue a free TLS certificate (Shopify requires the app to be served over HTTPS). 5. Push the app's configuration to Shopify • From a machine with Node.js and the Shopify CLI installed, run: npm install -g @shopify/cli@latest shopify app config link # links to the app created in step 1 shopify app deploy # pushes scopes, webhooks, and URLs • This registers the app's webhooks (order paid, uninstall, GDPR topics) and the permission scopes it needs, including write_orders (used to attach the invoice link to the order for the confirmation email). 6. Install the app on our store • Use the install link from Partners (or the link shown under Distribution) to install the app on our store. • Accept the requested permissions when prompted. 7. One-time email template edit • In our Shopify admin, go to Settings → Notifications → Order confirmation → Edit code. • Paste in the Liquid snippet provided in the project's README (section “Showing the invoice link in the order confirmation email”) so a “Download your invoice” link appears in every confirmation email from then on. 8. Configure the store's details inside the app • Open the app from the Shopify admin and fill in: Company details (name, address, VAT number, company number, logo, footer note). • Choose the invoice numbering format (defaults to matching the Shopify order number). • Connect PrintNode: paste the API key, fetch the printer list, and select our two printers. 9. Test end-to-end and sign off • Place a test order and mark it paid (or use a real low-value order). • Confirm an invoice appears in the app's Invoices list with the correct VAT breakdown, SKU, and any discount code applied. • Confirm it printed automatically to both configured printers. • Confirm the Print and Download buttons on the Invoices list both work. • Confirm the “Download your invoice” link appears in the order confirmation email the customer receives, and that it opens the correct PDF. • Restart the VPS (or just the Docker containers) and confirm the app comes back up and previously generated invoices are still there. 10. Handover • Confirm where the .env file lives on the server and how to edit it. • Make sure we have a secure backup of the ENCRYPTION_KEY value — losing it means every store's saved PrintNode key would need to be re-entered. • A short written note (a few lines is fine) on how to redeploy after a code update, how to view logs, and how to restart the app if it ever needs it. Reference: the supplied project includes a full [login to view URL] covering every command above in more detail, plus the exact Liquid snippet for step 7. The developer should treat that file as the primary source of truth for exact commands and file paths.

The real risk here is not getting the app to run, but getting every moving part aligned so Shopify, Docker, nginx, SSL, webhooks, and PrintNode all behave properly after go-live and after a restart. Since your README already defines the commands and paths, I’d treat that as the source of truth, deploy cleanly on the VPS, then verify the full invoice flow from paid order to stored PDF, email link, and dual-printer output. I’ve handled Shopify deployment work where the code was already finished but the last-mile setup was the critical part: app creation in Partners, environment variables, reverse proxy/HTTPS, webhook registration, and production verification. Jobs like this usually succeed or fail on careful config, logging checks, and testing the reinstall/restart path, not on coding from scratch. A small written redeploy/runbook can be included at handover as well. - Will you be providing root or sudo SSH on the Ubuntu VPS from the start? - Do you want me to create the custom app in Partners directly, or will you create it and pass over the Client ID/secret? - For testing PrintNode, are both target printers already visible in the account?

Hi there, We understand you need to deploy the Invoice Printer app, a custom Shopify app that generates PDF invoices and prints them to two shop printers via PrintNode. The app codebase is complete, and we'll take it from code to a live, working app on your server and Shopify account. With our experience in Linux, Docker, and Shopify app development, we've successfully deployed similar projects, such as e-commerce websites for fashion brands using Shopify and custom PHP development. Our team has 17 years of web development experience and a 5.0 rating across 458 reviews on Freelancer. One question: are there any specific security or backup protocols we should follow during the deployment process to ensure the app's and store's data integrity? Feel free to message us to discuss the details! — Webbook Studio

Your app is already built, so the important part now is a clean production deployment without missing any of the easy-to-overlook pieces like HTTPS, webhook registration, env security, printer mapping, and persistence after restart. I’d handle it as a structured rollout: server prep, Docker deployment, Shopify configuration push, store install, then end-to-end validation of invoice generation, download link, and printing. I’ve worked on Shopify setups that involved custom/private app deployment, CLI config pushes, app URLs/redirects, and VPS-side setup with nginx and SSL in front of containers. This kind of job benefits from following the documentation closely, checking logs at each stage, and testing the real operational flow instead of stopping once the app simply loads. I can also leave a concise handover note for redeploy, logs, .env updates, and restart steps. - Is the subdomain DNS ready to point immediately, or will that happen after the VPS is prepared? - Do you want testing done on a dev/test store first, or directly on the target store with a low-value order?

This kind of Shopify app rollout usually goes wrong in the gaps between systems, not in the code itself — especially SSL, redirect URLs, webhook deployment, and making sure stored invoices survive container or VPS restarts. With your README and supplied codebase, I’d focus on a production-safe deployment and full verification all the way through to the email invoice link and both PrintNode printers. I’ve done Linux/Docker-based deployments and Shopify-side configuration tasks where the deliverable was a stable live setup rather than fresh development. That includes nginx/certbot setup, environment configuration, app install flow, and confirming logs/containers are healthy before sign-off. I can include the final written handover so your team knows exactly where .env lives and how to redeploy safely. - Will access to Shopify Partners, VPS, and the subdomain DNS all be available up front? - Is the Liquid snippet in the order confirmation meant to be applied by me as part of the job? - Do you already know the invoice numbering format you want, or should I leave the default matching order number?

Hi, I hope you're doing well! I'd be glad to handle the full deployment of your Invoice Printer app from code to a live, working setup. Here's how I'll approach it: - Docker setup, nginx, and SSL via certbot on your Fasthosts VPS - Shopify app creation, config push, and store install - PrintNode connection, end-to-end testing, and handover notes A few questions before I start: 1. Is the subdomain DNS already pointed at the VPS, or will you handle that once I confirm the IP? 2. Should I create the Shopify app in Partners myself, or will you create it and share the Client ID and secret? 3. Do you have a live PrintNode printer ready for testing, or should I use a placeholder printer during the test run? I'll follow your README as the primary source of truth throughout and provide a clean handover note covering logs, restarts, and redeployment steps. Looking forward to getting this live for you! Hi, I can take the completed Invoice Printer codebase through the full deployment and get it running on your Fasthosts VPS and Shopify store. I’m comfortable with Ubuntu/Linux, Docker & Docker Compose, nginx/SSL, PostgreSQL, Shopify custom apps/webhooks, environment configuration, DNS and API integrations. I’ll handle the complete process described in your brief: VPS/Docker preparation, environment configuration, deployment, nginx + HTTPS/Certbot, Shopify Partner app configuration, Shopify CLI deployment, store installation, webhook/scopes verification, PrintNode setup and the required notification template integration. I’ll then test the complete paid-order flow — invoice generation and persistence, VAT/SKU/discount information, printing to both PrintNode printers, PDF download/reprint, customer invoice link and persistence after container/server restart. I’ll also provide the requested handover notes covering logs, restart/redeployment commands and secure handling of the encryption key. Fixed price: 110 GBP Delivery: 1–2 days I can start immediately once the codebase, VPS credentials, Shopify access, DNS access and PrintNode testing details are available.

Hi there, I can deploy your supplied Invoice Printer app end to end, including Shopify custom app configuration, Docker/Postgres setup, nginx HTTPS, Shopify CLI deployment, webhooks, PrintNode, and live testing. I’ll follow the README as the source of truth, verify invoice persistence and printing after restarts, and provide a concise handover covering logs, redeployment, backups, and encryption-key safety. A useful improvement would be adding a simple deployment health-check script for future updates. I’ll keep the implementation focused and carefully validate the order-confirmation invoice link, VAT breakdown, and both printers before handover. Hi! I can deploy your custom Invoice Printer Shopify app and get it running reliably in production. My plan: review the existing app and its webhook flow, set it up on a stable host (or your preferred server/serverless), configure the order-paid webhook so it fires on every paid order, and verify the PDF invoice generation, storage and retrieval all work correctly. I'll wire up the PrintNode integration so invoices print automatically to both shop printers, add retry logic and logging so nothing is missed, and secure the API keys and webhook verification. Then I'll test end to end with real orders before handover. Could you share the app's repo/code, your hosting preference, and the PrintNode/printer details? Best regards, Zahidul

Hi there, I've read through the brief and understand the goal: get your custom Shopify invoice printer app deployed on your VPS, hooked into your store via HTTPS, printing to two printers via PrintNode, and showing the download link in order emails. I'll follow the README step by step, using Docker, Nginx, Certbot, and Shopify CLI to get it live and tested. Quick question — do you already have the Shopify app created in Partners, or should I handle that from scratch? Looking forward to hearing from you. Webcast Technology

Hi, I'm Denis, a full-stack developer with experience deploying Shopify apps to production, Docker, Linux VPS setup, and third-party integrations like PrintNode. I understand your project: move your Invoice Printer app from development to production. The flow is: watch for paid orders, generate branded PDFs, store them permanently, print via PrintNode to your two printers, and provide secure download links in customer emails. You'll also need a settings panel to manage company details, invoice numbering, and printer configuration. I've handled similar deployments with Docker Compose, Shopify app registration, webhook configuration, and SSL setup. The main challenge is synchronizing all pieces: Shopify Partners app creation, VPS environment variables, nginx reverse proxy, and CLI deployment. My approach: 1. Review your codebase and confirm requirements 2. Create the app in Shopify Partners with correct URLs and scopes 3. Prepare the VPS with Docker and Docker Compose 4. Deploy the stack and configure nginx with Let's Encrypt 5. Use Shopify CLI to push app configuration and install on your store 6. Configure company details and PrintNode inside the app 7. Run end-to-end testing with a real order 8. Document .env location, backup encryption key, and provide redeployment notes Important: Your ENCRYPTION_KEY is critical. If lost, you'll need to re-enter your PrintNode API key for every store. We'll generate it securely, document it clearly, and confirm you have a safe backup

I've built and deployed similar Shopify private apps with PrintNode integration before, so this is right in my wheelhouse. I'll create the app in Partners, set up Docker/Postgres on the VPS, configure nginx/certbot for HTTPS, deploy the app, push webhooks via Shopify CLI, install it on the store, and validate the invoice generation, printing, and email link. The README provides exact commands for each step, so I'll follow that precisely. After testing with a paid test order and confirming all components work, I'll document the .env location, encryption key backup, and basic maintenance steps. I can start immediately. Thanks, Andrii.
