I need someone to write a macro that I can use in Word/Excel for the Mac and export to Adobe InDesign for the Mac. It consists of selecting names, addresses, and phone numbers (from a comma-delimited database purchased from AT&T) and converting them into a format that I use for a community telephone directory. The finished format is typical of telephone book listings, with flush-left, flush-right columns containing names and phone numbers in boldface fonts, addresses in regular fonts, and dot leaders filling the gaps between addresses and phone numbers. Until now I have processed these files by using Microsoft Word's text-to-table command to separate the names, addresses, etc., into separate columns in which I format the fonts. Then I convert them back to paragraph-delimited text which I "place" into the InDesign columns.
The problem is that some listings include names, addresses, and phone numbers while others include only the names and numbers (no street addresses). In order to avoid line-by-line editing of nearly 5,000 listings, I need a macro that can recognize a blank address column and adjust the handling of data accordingly.
The project requires completion by May 22 in order to be implemented this year.
