You're trying to solve a Rubik's cube with motors and sensors, but the real bottleneck is getting the cube aligned perfectly after each turn without jamming. I'd start with a 3D-printed gripper that uses compliant mechanisms, no gears, just flexing plastic, to hold the cube snugly while still letting the motors rotate each face without slipping. Most teams over-torque the motors and burn out the Arduino's current limit, or they skip the homing sequence and end up with a cube that's one turn off. I'll add a microswitch on each axis to zero the position after every move, and use a PID loop to keep the motor speed smooth so the cube doesn't fly apart mid-solve. You'll get a device that finishes a solve in under 30 seconds without breaking the cube or the budget.

You're trying to solve a Rubik's cube with motors and sensors, but the real bottleneck is calibration drift. Motors lose steps over time, and cheap encoders can't correct it. I'd add a simple optical sensor at the end of each arm to snap a quick photo of the cube face after every move, then use OpenCV to verify the state matches the expected pattern. Most teams overlook power sequencing. If all six motors start at once, the Arduino browns out. I'd stagger the start-up with a 50ms delay between each motor and add a soft-start circuit to keep current spikes under 2A. Ready to start immediately.
