Dear Sir/Madam I am a chemist from Zimbabwe and holds B.Sc. Chemistry and Biochemistry from Zimbabwe as well as M.Sc. Chemistry from University of Siegen in Germany. I would like to be part of your project in developing histopathology reagents. Formalin (formaldehyde) is used as a fixative to preserve biological specimens. Some other fixatives are ethanol or methanol based. Dehydrating agents remove moisture that promote bacterial growth and they include ethanol with varying percentages, isopropanol and methanol. Clearing agents include xylene, toluene or chloroform. An embedding media is required for depth profiling of tissue. The common media include paraffin wax, resin and OCT compound. Staining reagents are used to observe tissues on slides. They include hematoxylin that stain nuclei blue or purple, and eosin that stains the cytoplasm pink. Yours faithfully Brian Chiunye
